DELIGHT CUSTOM FIRMWARES: Information on Updates & Plans

some of you may have noticed that I haven't been online frequently in the last 4 - 6 weeks. I have been really busy in my personal life and needed a break.

After I had tried to "Delight" as many devices as possible in the beginning of the year, which used up all my spare time, it was time for a relax.... even though there was nothing relaxing about what I still had to do.

Huellif / Fabian has been working on a couple fixes, updates and new Delight app functions ... i.e. Delight development and is currently getting ready for his exams. I am on vacation from work since this week and it's time to get back to my hobby of making Delight.

The last 2 days I have been reading ALL the blog comments to get a picture on what there is to do...
tomorrow I am going to do the same on Dailymobile to gather bug reports as well...

ALL in favour of the "BIG FIX & OPTIMISE & UPDATE - UPDATE"

plan is to fix all the problems, bugs and issues that users stated in the last two months...

not counting flashing and testing and developing and cooking and uploading and everything else I find down the road...

so, stay tuned and feel free to comment here whatever you like to talk about
Comments here are open to all phones and development questions, issues, bugs, and etc...

  1. Wow, I can assure you we're all really excited :D " plan is to fix all the problems, bugs and issues ... " <- awesome. I can see you really like what you do and we also appreciate this. Everyone still talking about Symbian now, for sure they will also know about Delight CFWs and the hard work that was put in. Delight seems to become more and more like a brand :D

Now running v 1.4 on 808, updated 2 versions till now and having installed everything that Symbian has good to offer from every store and developer available (for whoever doesn't know, replacements for Nokia Store : eg. AppList Store ; Symbian Developers Store), and with Delight, the felling is supreme, it feels so complete and future-proof.

Still, the last refurbish was dec. 2013 with Delight v1.2, the registry is 4 months old. It shows 1 main problem I have always faced in Belle FP2 after a long-time installation:

    1. When I change the theme, it hardly loads and after going back to the menu, some elements of the theme does load and some don't. A restart is needed to fully load that theme. Do you know how to fix this? I don't want to refurbish yet because I still have some apps and games to test and add them to some kind of a personal '' curated app list '' and I want to refurbish with v1.5 :)
    2. Connection destinations problems. Restart needed to actually be able to connect to '' Internet '' or '' WAP '' after selecting the change. It just won't connect otherwise.

    - I'm curious if it sounds familiar and if you ever experienced them. Is the refurbish the only way to fix these?

Now one personal question about RAM. Why do we receive '' Memory full, close some apps '' Message when RAM shows only 60% used ? (30+ open apps, yes, but still, 230+ MB free) I know it is Belle problem, not related to Delight. Have anyone though of something to be able of using further available memory? It seems like wasted to me :/

PS: Sorry for the long story. But it's what I like to talk about, and you said us to feel free to comment ^^

    1. great feedback.
hardly ever anyone takes time to start a dialogue like you did.
Have you tried using the registry fixer in Delight app?
      1) never had that issue before, but that's probably because I flash my device to often...but even using software update again and again and again I haven't had that.
      2) I get that issue once in a while too, but I always use the dropdown window to exit wifi or wlan, and turn in back on 5 seconds later
Memory: Its already been modified in Delight. not sure why the original mod didn't open up all resources... probably stability issues
you have some very good points here. I hope we can clear them up in the future.

    2. Yes, I ran Registry Fixer along with Chache Cleaner yesterday, and Theme Changing Glich is still present after that. Doing a software update doesn't help too. Anyway, it's not big deal and it'll be gone with the next Refurbish I planned :D

Regarding 2), Same as me. I also get restart sometime when attempting to connect to a wifi after that. Poor software, getting old with 453 installed apps/games :D

0.o I thought you'd find it annoying lol. I'll further investigate on these problems and about how to deal with long-installation outcomes. Until then, I can't wait for the Delight. Take your time Eric, Fabian, Ashok and the rest of the team ;) You and the rest of the devs still making Symbian better, you may be writing history.

    3. I only get annoyed at the same questions again and again and again. But real feedback is always welcome here

    4. I think the theme switching behaviour is related to the removed theme switch popup. The theme loads most elements instantly but anything after Refresh has the issue of the Theme only loading fully after a reboot. Especially the dropdownbar.

  3. Hi Eric,

I am having trouble with a couple of widgets. for example the e-mail widget that has the two arrows plus the recycle icon on the bottom does not work color-wise. dark blue font on transparent black background makes it not useable.

Same goes for the favorite contacts widgets that seems to be set at 50% / 30% opacity. Both of them show this issue, the one more than the other. Changing the widget skins back does not work for me either. Only a couple of on/off switches get reverted.

    I am on a 808 with the 1.4 CFW.

What i'd really like to see is an option to choose the skin for each widget. for the on/off switch the transparent delight layout is awesome, for the favorite contacts and email it is not... ;)

Besides that I can too report that the startup sound does not work on my 808.

    Cheers

    1. I am working on a new set of widgets as well. I think the contacts widgets should stay original. I will try to make the stackemail widget font white. startup sound only works when warning sounds are enabled in your profile. ....all widgets can't run off C, yet...but I have an idea about that

  5. Ah Excellent, thanks for the hint!
Btw: I've noticed that since flashing the CFW my car (2012 Chrysler 300) now recognizes texts and allows me to read them. Previously this feature was not available with the phone connected via bluetooth to the vehicle. Have you made any changes in terms of the BT support/standard?
    :)

    1. not that I know of. some mods and files are ported from the N8, but that doesn't include a bluetooth mod for the bluetooth. maybe it is somehow related to the syap mod, but I am not sure about that. Anyway, grreat that it works, and thanks for the hint about that.

    1. er you wait until I make it for you or you extract the contents of the rofs2 from one translation and insert itinto the other translation ...overwrite when prompted. Use Nokia COoker to open the rofs2. the languages you chose should fit on one file.

  7. I will be faithful waiting, eric. Because I don't
know what's sign rofs2/rofs3 not exceed the
memory capacity of my rom. I've read in the
forum daily mobile, you said there should be
ECOM-2-0.spi or whatever it was, I was very
confused by it. I hope you patiently answered my question, which was recently completely in terms
    of CFW.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Hi Eric, I'm impressed by your continued spirit on this! Cheeeeeers :-)

I'd like to request one fundamental change in your CFW rollout process. Please streamline all version numbers and start with 2.0 Introduce new ones on shared features but end the jungle we have now ;-)

How're we supposed to compare CFWs of the delight range by version number? We can't it only shows that there might be a new one but to compare them, we have to compare full changelogs.

Maybe we can curate a tree structure for shared features and mods amongst the devices or a sheet with all the info in it?

  9. if original firmware and refurbish doesn't work, then you have to go to Nokia Care Center. If you are lucky, then they might be able to get in back to life

  10. I have been using Delight v6.4 for my N8 and I must say its simply wonderful! Especially the delight App. It makes things so easy! But I do have a few issues. Not sure if they are related to CFW or not but would still like to point them out:
    1. Internet connection (2G/3G) is troublesome with it sometimes connecting and sometimes not. This is not a prob with my network since it works on my wife's android phone correctly and it was working consistently in v6.2 before. But with v6.4, I can no longer depend on network for internet connectivity.
    2. After a clean install, when I added a note, it was adding two notes for the same note. Removing one kept the remaining one but after restart it was lost. But after I restored my backed up notes from my PC, I am not facing that issue any more. Not sure what the trouble was
    3. Any way to change the conversation font color in messaging? With the background image on (especially custom ones), it's really hard to see the text msg let alone read it
    4. If we goto software update, it shows a lot of updates including the one for widgets. Installing those over rides the delight ones. I understand the solution is to not install the updates, but could you provide a list of ones that we shouldn't install and the ones we can?
    5. Browser keeps crashing when I load any intensive page - some sites containing video (not YouTube) or songs
But these issues I can live with since the CFW is otherwise excellent. Keep up the wonderful job and we will keep supporting you :)
Eagerly awaiting the new version :)

    1. Hi, Just adding to my previous list - more like details than issues. For the 2g/3g issue, I noticed one other peculiar thing. I am on Vodafone and my phone tries to connect to Vodafone MMS profile which is not even listed in my network destination. My network destination has one for Vodafone Mobile Connect in Internet and Vodaone Live for WAP both of which are not being used. How to I force them to be used?
And the only other issue is, in my office, we have a wifi that can be connected and then I have to enter my email id in an authentication page which lets me browse as long as I am within range. But now, I see that the wifi keeps getting disconnected and I keep getting redirected to the authentication page in the browser.
Both of these were working fine in earlier versions of Delight (6.1 and 6.2). Thanks again for the wonderful firmware and support! You guys rock! :D

  12. Hi Eric, thanks for yours, Fabian & the rest of the Delight crews excellent work in keeping Symbian live & current with v6.4.
I enjoy running my phone as gesture based & automated as possible, trying to increase its longevity. The applications I rely
on for this the most are "QooSystems", "Belle Extra Buttons", "Double Air Waves" & "Situations". My only problems with Deilght
are that whenever I install "Situations" onto an RM-596, Bluetooth switching on & off option does not appear. I have tried
other cfw's & it works on them. I have flashed the device many times always using RM-596-11.5-scandinavia as my downgrade
& always doing a hard reset before & after downgrading.
I also have another problem. however can live without this issue. I have used an application called "Inova Countdown Timer" for
a long time & have recently seen its release on the new "Applist Store" by Shumi. No matter how I install this app on my n8 it
always says "component "IAP" missing" & never works. This only ever works on Xeon or original firmwares, other cfw's also fail
to run the application & show the same message in the installation stage.
I don't care if the second problem is fixed but if it helps you create a better cfw then that would be great. I love the new
theme you included in 6.4 as an alternative to the great delight theme & your Delight application is huge with so much great
stuff included, I'm still getting my head around all of it. From an avid armature, THANKYOU :-) +1

  13. Hey, _I'm really satisfied with the custom ROM, it really gives new life to Symbian phones.
The only thing I don't like about Symbian is the keyboard, I don't it always is like too small even on landscape on my N8, is there a way to have a custom keyboard or is it imposible?
Well, so far that's the only thing I'll like to change.
Great work with the custom ROM.
And I don't know if it's a bug or what, but since the last update I find imposible to install Facebook app(yes the horrible, slow, official Java app)... What happened? Is a problem from Facebook don't wanting Symbian phone to have the app? I would not be surprised, they never made a proper Facebook app for Symbian...
Well, thanks for all the great work!

  18. I want to say "thank you" for making Symbian so much more usable. I have just started using custom firmware this year and very glad I chose delight. As far as developing for the a 603 Delight is the factor preventing this the lack of a 603 device? I've sent a delight E7 to a friend overseas and when I get feedback from tha first time Symbian user I'll collect it and pass on anything they observe. Once again, thanks

  19. Eric, enjoying delight (especially after you pointed me to the NAM radio fix so I didn't keep on restarting). I especially like the backup feature of common apps as it makes refurbishing a more pleasant option. I will ask though if it's possible to add Nokia situations to the list as having to put back in all of those profiles is a bit of a pain, it would be great to be able to restore them! Thanks again for some wonderful firmware.

  26. First of all: Great Work!
I have installed CFW 1.4. It is great! Here are the problems I have met so far:
1: In the instant when turning from portrait to landscape the picture is upside down. It's correcting the instant the process is done. (maybe is just a bug)
2: all the aplications mentioned in the CFW jurnal that suposed to be deleted from phone are still present. ( Not that I'm bothered by them, except the ones for which the support is dead eg: the Nokia Weather). Did I miss a step when flashing?
3: can you do something about the Contacts order: for me it annoying the fact that a a contact name with a space after the first letter is in the middle and not at the begining ( eg: for letter "L": ...Laur; Luca; L Uve; Luxian... . Why it cann't b like this: ...L Uve; Laur marian; Luca Mary; Luxian SA... )

  31. Nice Rom but for E7 ridiculoously bad battery drain...e.g. after entering airplane mode, I have 50% battery. By morning the phone is dead (even after removing issearchmobile, xmpserver, ombserver and disabling internal Search and disabling updates). There is some process that runs in the background at night that just kills battery...for this reason this ROM is unuseable...I try with The One rom and this gives me over 2 weeks battery for E7 (with autoprofile turning on airplane every night)....

When starting Connectivity analyzer (Very good tool - Thanks alot for this one!) it claims about Uncomplete installation (Installation of IP packet capture is not completed. Another bug was found using Opera Mobile (12, the last available) - some icons/small pictures (for example, in replies to AllAboutSymbian topics) are shown as a grid of random colored blinking dots, however I've not noticed if this bug has appeared after flashing to Delight or it was already there on Belle...

  45. If you uninsall a couple of preinstalled apps like X-Plore you can get a few MB, but unlike with old s60v5 devices you don't have to fear about no more space on C:\ with the X7 ;)

Playing with fonts can cause softbricks, than you have to do a Dead USB Refurbish with compatible fonts to recover your phone. Read the whole thread, it explains how you have to name the font files: http://forum.dailymobile.net/forums/symbian-3-mods-request-and-discussion/79613-help-change-fp2-fonts.html

To get power symbols to your font read here: http://forum.dailymobile.net/forums/symbian-3-mods-releases/69800-tutorial-edit-fonts-power-menu-symbols-mods.html

I can't tell you if this font is compatible, you have to figure it out by yourself, I wish you good luck!

If your phone doesn't boot anymore write a comment, I will tell you a little flashing trick which could recover your phone without of wiping drive C:\

  47. Try to revert the avkon or the evolve to go sure what exactly causes this issue.
Did you modify them by yourself or download a ready mod, and if yes can you link it?

  50. I mainly use now my Nokia N8 for it's FM transmitter. Are there any chances to:
    1. Increase the bandwith on which N8 transmits
    2. Increase/Boost the volume power of the FM transmitter

    ?

    Thanks,
    Luci.

  51. Hi Luci,

    1. No way without of full sources, except it's hardware related.
    2. Yes that's possible with modded EQ settings and SoundModTest0.2 in ROMPatcher you get a bit more volume.

    Regards,
    Fabian

  52. Thanks, I would then apply your recommendations. Keep doing the great job!

  53. Is it possible to flash back Official Firmware in case of some problems? I have Nokia 701 in Czech language which usually causes troubles :D

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hello Pavel,

sure you can flash back to OFW as long as you don't flash a lower firmware number (it has to be FP2).
    You can get it from
    MrCrab: http://www.mrcrab.net/nokia/Nokia_701.html?productID=4813911819&productType=RM-774&releaseID=7087932259&version=113.10.1506
    NaviFirm: http://www.symbian-toys.com/navifirm.aspx
    or many other souces.

Flash OFW exactly like you flashed Delight and you are done.

But what exactly usually causes trouble? Nokia 701, Czech language or Delight?

    Regards

  55. Hello,
thank you for your response and don't worry - I was just talking about Czech language causing problems everywhere usually :D I haven't tried Delight yet, but at the weekend, I'll give it a try :)

But one more question... I have heard that Music Player crashes when I try to display mp3 details in czech version because of missing translations. Is the information correct?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hello Pavel,

I am not sure which languages are affected, but Eric told me it will be fixed in the next update.
Until that flash Delight and try it, if it doesn't work just write another comment and I will upload a fixed version for you.

    Regards,
    Fabian

  57. Thank you again. You can expect some comments on Saturday :)

  58. Well, I flashed it a few minutes ago and everything is much faster now :) Delight is amazing. But the problem with Nokia Music is really there. When I touch some song and select "Detaily skladby" ("Song Details" in english), application crashes.

BTW: Next time, I'll post it to Nokia 701 page... http://n8delight.blogspot.cz/2014/02/701-delight-v10.html

  59. Replace the Czech ROFS2 with this one: https://www.mediafire.com/?l871sbh895wfy8y

Than flash like you flashed Delight the first time, but choose Update Software instead of Refurbish and in the menu where you have to remove the red .eMMC file also remove UDA.fpsx, so all your data will stay.

    Regards

    ReplyDelete
  60. Thank you - I've flashed it again with new ROFS2 and now it doesn't crash any more :)
But there are two things I've noticed - it takes between 5 and 10 seconds to open it and it is in English instead of Czech ;) May I provide you translations from official Belle FP2? My friend stil has it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Well, than we're not thinking about the same thing :) I was talking about the simple "Song Details" menu item in Nokia Music Player - there were details even in official FP2. It didn't allow me to change anything, but to view ID3 items :)

    ReplyDelete
  62. I think you don't know what's going on or what you want, do you want a working ID3 editor, a read only ID3 viewer or a crashing music player?

I guess a working ID3 editor on English is the best option because there's no ready made translation for this mod, that's what I changed in the ROFS2.

You either have the viewer or the editor, if you have the editor with an OFW translation which is made for the viewer the music player will crash, if you use the English translation it will work fine but of course on English only, if you want a translated viewer only this also requires modding the .dll in ROFS1.

    ReplyDelete
  63. You are 100 percent right - I didn't know, what I wanted :) Actually I didn't notice that the standard ID3 viewer was replaced by the CODeRUS' ID3 editor mod and that was the source of my confusion ;) So right now I am satisfied :) But I'll try to contact the author of the ID3 editor and provide him translation to Czech language :)

  67. We are looking forward sir thank you so much for making such a wonderful firmware. this is one of the reasons why i still have my symbian phone.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Hello there Delight cookers. I know it looks a bit like reviving a dead topic but I only flashed my N8 with your firmware couple of days ago. I scrolled down the "to do list" you published and I found "check for a fix for Slowak text to speech". You can also add "check for a fix for Polish text to speech" 'cause voice command in polish don't function. Best Regards,
